CherISh Workshop 1

A Successful Start in Tübingen

Our first CherISh workshop took place at the University of Tübingen from November 18–20, 2024, bringing together doctoral candidates, researchers, and industry experts for an engaging three-day event.

The workshop kicked off with presentations from our doctoral candidates, offering insights into their research plans and fostering scientific discussions. The second day featured expert talks on cochlear implants (CIs), gene therapy, and auditory processing, complemented by a visit to the CI rehabilitation center. The final day focused on the CherISh consortium’s strategic discussions, followed by an interactive Q&A session with four CI users.

This event marked an important milestone for our network, setting the stage for future collaboration and innovation in hearing research.

What happens when you leave your PhD students alone?

On the 18th and 19th of June, our PhD students had the pleasure of coming together at the Acoustic Research Institute, Austrian Academy of Sciences, for two full days of unsupervised discussion in beautiful Vienna.

🔬 It was a great opportunity for them to share their projects nearly two years into their PhD journey, discuss the challenges they are facing, and find support among their peers, without the pressure of performance.

🫂 Doing a PhD is not only a scientific challenge, but a personal one as well. With this meeting, we gave our DCs the chance to also talk about work-life balance and the personal challenges they encounter, encouraging a healthy approach to work.

🕛 Last but not least, this gave them the opportunity to organise something on their own, taking an increasingly active role in their own careers and in how they want to use their time.
